The repeating arrangement of tubulin dimers confers great mechanical strength to microtubules, which are used as scaffolds for intracellular macromolecular transport in cells and exploited in biohybrid devices. The crystalline order in a microtubule, with lattice constants short enough to allow energy transfer between amino acid chromophores, is similar to synthetic structures designed for light harvesting. After photoexcitation, can these amino acid chromophores transfer excitation energy along the microtubule like a natural or artificial light-harvesting system? Here, we use tryptophan autofluorescence lifetimes to probe energy hopping between aromatic residues in tubulin and microtubules. By studying how the quencher concentration alters tryptophan autofluorescence lifetimes, we demonstrate that electronic energy can diffuse over 6.6 nm in microtubules. We discover that while diffusion lengths are influenced by tubulin polymerization state (free tubulin versus tubulin in the microtubule lattice), they are not significantly altered by the average number of protofilaments (13 versus 14). We also demonstrate that the presence of the anesthetics etomidate and isoflurane reduce exciton diffusion. Energy transport as explained by conventional Förster theory (accommodating for interactions between tryptophan and tyrosine residues) does not sufficiently explain our observations. Our studies indicate that microtubules are, unexpectedly, effective light harvesters.
Abstract
Volatile anesthetics are currently believed to cause unconsciousness by acting on one or more molecular targets including neural ion channels, receptors, mitochondria, synaptic proteins, and cytoskeletal proteins. Anesthetic gases including isoflurane bind to cytoskeletal microtubules (MTs) and dampen their quantum optical effects, potentially contributing to causing unconsciousness. This possibility is supported by the finding that taxane chemotherapy consisting of MT-stabilizing drugs reduces the effectiveness of anesthesia during surgery in human cancer patients. In order to experimentally assess the contribution of MTs as functionally relevant targets of volatile anesthetics, we measured latencies to loss of righting reflex (LORR) under 4% isoflurane in male rats injected subcutaneously with vehicle or 0.75 mg/kg of the brain-penetrant MT–stabilizing drug epothilone B (epoB). EpoB-treated rats took an average of 69 s longer to become unconscious as measured by latency to LORR. This was a statistically significant difference corresponding to a standardized mean difference (Cohen's d) of 1.9, indicating a “large” normalized effect size. The effect could not be accounted for by tolerance from repeated exposure to isoflurane. Our results suggest that binding of the anesthetic gas isoflurane to MTs causes unconsciousness and loss of purposeful behavior in rats (and presumably humans and other animals). This finding is predicted by models that posit consciousness as a property of a quantum physical state of neural MTs.

The Quantum Biology Laboratory (QBL) at Howard University, Washington DC has commenced a pioneering two-year study with a grant of US$550,000 awarded by The Guy Foundation. This is the third scientific research project supported by The Guy Foundation since it was established in 2018 and the first award outside the UK.
Under the direction of QBL Principal Investigator and Founding Director Philip Kurian, the grant will support the lab in exploring fundamental questions at the nexus of quantum theory, electrodynamics, and biosystems. “This is a landmark moment for the QBL, and for Howard,” said Dr Kurian, a theoretical physicist. “It demonstrates our University’s institutional commitment to research in the quantum sciences, particularly quantum biology.”
Collaborating with researchers in Switzerland (femtosecond spectroscopy) and Mexico (open quantum systems), the QBL is now positioned to be the first group in the world to experimentally demonstrate cooperative quantum phenomena in tubulin protein architectures, which form a significant part of cytoskeletal networks in the brain and throughout the cells of higher organisms. Kurian and colleagues theoretically predicted these cooperative effects in 2019 in the New Journal of Physics.
Future implications of the QBL’s work extend beyond fundamental science. “Oxidative stress, an important factor in the progression and severity of chronic degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and cancer, may modulate or disrupt ultrafast signaling processes in the cell through molecular emission of packets of light. Study of these light-enabled signaling pathways will provide insights into mechanisms behind the mystery of human conscious processing,” said Dr Kurian. “In addition, the QBL’s research may lead to advanced biosensors that can provide earlier-stage clues to disease status, and to novel devices that can harvest light energy beyond the sun’s visible spectrum.”
It is this type of visionary research that attracted The Guy Foundation to the QBL, as the Foundation funds projects that explore quantum mechanics, bioenergetics, and their role in disease processes, to support the translation of a deeper physical understanding into advancing biomedical tools and medical practice. “Awarding this grant to Dr. Kurian was an important step in fulfilling the Foundation’s aims of bringing together leading scientists interested in quantum biology from around the world, which would ensure that this field of science finally reaches a critical mass and fulfills its destiny of answering some of the deepest questions about life itself,” said The Guy Foundation Founder and Chairman Professor Geoffrey Guy.

Дело в том ВладимырычЪ что ещё полгода назад у меня была надежда что опубликованная мною в 2011 году гипотеза может быть верной. Единственным моментом её оспаривающим было явление декогеренции. То есть для существования того что изложено в моей гипотезе нужна была вечно (не долго а именно вечно) живущая квантовая когерентность. Это может быть реализовано только за счет топологической защиты. И я возлагал надежды на механизм SSH-модель (или модель Су — Шриффера — Хигера) Авторы (три буквы): В. Су (Su), Дж. Шриффер (Schrieffer), А. Хигер (Heeger). Но с появлением чатов ИИ я с их помощью выяснил что топологическая защита от декогеренции за счет одного только самого по себе этого механизма невозможна. Для этого нужны ещё фермионы Майораны (майорановские фермионы) или энионы (Энион), а они могут работать только при сверхнизких температурах.
То есть моя гипотеза оказалась несостоятельной - я выяснил это у ИИ в последние полгода. Поэтому все что мне осталось - следить за тем как осуществляются попытки подтверждения квантовых гипотез сознания выдвинутых другими авторами, то есть, по Вашему выражению, - "коллекционировать" их.
Ну а то что мою статью будут продолжать цитировать в диссертациях посвященных психотерапии с использованием карт Таро и явления синхроничности Карла Юнга ну так это уже личное дело американских и других аспирантов и постдоков. Я им запретить меня цитировать не могу
