In the beginning of 20Th Century, Gurvich has introduced the concept of mitogenic radiation {ref}. The latter refers to the week radiation of biological molecules in the process of their functioning. It is not surprising that molecules, and especially such large complex molecules as biopolymers, can emit photons. The nontrivial concept is that these photons are not just the by-products of different reactions, but are also used for the communication between biomolecules. Since Gurvitch's proposal, this hypothesis has not been explicitly proved. However some facts have been accumulated, which the advocates of this concept use to support this point of view. Here we will not review the experimental and (what we believe to be) pseudo-experimental findings, but rather would discuss, what would happen to the physical and biological laws if the concept of quantum-wave biology would be true.
Russian, German, and other biophotonics experts, often adopting the term biophotons from Popp, have theorized, like Gurwitsch, that they may be involved in various cell functions, such as mitosis, or even that they may be produced and detected by the DNA in the cell nucleus. In 1974 Dr. V.P.Kazmacheyev announced that his research team in Novosibirsk had detected intercellular communication by means of these rays.{ref}

According to the biophoton theory developed on the base of these discoveries the biophoton light is stored in the cells of the organism - more precisely, in the DNA molecules of their nuclei - and a dynamic web of light constantly released and absorbed by the DNA may connect cell organelles, cells, tissues, and organs within the body and serve as the organism's main communication network and as the principal regulating instance for all life processes. The processes of morphogenesis, growth, differentiation and regeneration are also explained by the structuring and regulating activity of the coherent biophoton field. The holographic biophoton field of the brain and the nervous system, and maybe even that of the whole organism, may also be basis of memory and other phenomena of consciousness, as postulated by neurophysiologist Karl Pribram and others. The consciousness-like coherence properties of the biophoton field are closely related to its base in the properties of the physical vacuum and indicate its possible role as an interface to the non-physical realms of mind, psyche and consciousness.
Suppose, the meaning of the DNA text is determined by the hologram depending on each DNA nucleotide as proponents of the wave genetics propose. Now, any mutation of a single nucleotide (which is a common process, statistically happening over time) would lead to the change of the meaning of the whole genome! That would make the organism unstable. A pure creature acting by the wave-genetic laws would always have to avoid sun (which increases the probability of DNA mutations). Needless to say, biological evolution, which is believed to be driven by mutations, would be impossible for an organism operated by wave-genetics.

On the other hand, one can argue that good mutations can accumulate because they are getting a wave-based support from the neighbouring organisms. Indeed, if that would be the case, we would not be able to distinguish between the mechanistically-operated organism and wave-operated organism.
