34th San Sebastian City International Chess Tournament

The 34th San Sebastian City International Chess Tournament is scheduled to take place from 16th to 23rd April at the Gros Xake Taldea. Anoeta passeig, 20. Donostia- San Sebastin. The playing system is 9-round Swiss open, with the time control of 90 minutes + 30 sec/move.
One month before the start of the competition already 139 players are signed to participate. The legendary GM Viktor Korchnoi, who will turn 80 in a few days, confirmed his arrival. Currently top seeded is GM Kevin Spraggett, for many years regular player in San Sebastin. Top prize is 1500 EUR, a trophy and traditional Txapela.
International Chess Championship Zagreb Open 2011 will be played from 11th to 18th April at Hotel Porin in Zagreb, Croatia. The organizer is Zagreb Chess Federation and the system of play in nine round Swiss with 90 minutes for 40 moves+ 15 min to the end of game incl. 30 seconds increment for every move (from the beginning of the game).
The tournament will be split in two events, Grandmaster Group for players rated above 2300 and Master Group for players rated under 2300. The prize fund in the main event is approximately 7200 EUR, with 2000 EUR reserved for the winner, and the prizes in the Master Group amount to 2400 EUR.
The top chess players will once again meet each other in the 2011 Grand Slam Final, which will be played 25 September to 11 October. The tournament picks up a Linares type model, making the tournament a double round robin and splitting the event between two venues - Sao Paulo and Bilbao.
The presentation of the Final Chess Masters itself will happen on board of the thematic chess cruice MSC pera. Then the first rounds of the event will be played in Sao Paulo and the second part will be in Alhndiga Bilbao.
The Grand Slam 2011 is a double round robin with 6 players. GM Magnus Carlsen (winner of Nanjing), GM Viswanathan Anand (World Champion), and GM Hikaru Nakamura (winner of Corus) are confirmed participants. One more will be selected from the tournament of Bazna Kings in June, while two more nominees will be announced later.
One more time Sofia rule and Bilbao rule will be part of the Grand Slam final.
The 3rd Orissa International GM Open Chess Tournament - KiiT CUP 2011 is taking place from 27th May to 6th June, at the Banquet Hall, KiiT University Campus, Bhubaneswar - 24, Orissa, India.
The tournament is organised by the All Orissa Chess Association and KiiT University, Bhubaneswar, under the guidance of All India Chess Federation. The total prize fund is $31,000 approx.
The tournament will be conducted as per FIDE Laws of Chess and Swiss System with 11 Rounds. Accelerated pairing will be employed first two rounds of the event to increase norm chances of players. 213 players have registered by today.
Liechtenstein Open

The 29th Liechtenstein International Open is being held from 27th May to 4th June at Gemeindesaal Triesen in the Principality of Liechtenstein. The tournament is organized by the Liechtensteiner Schachverband and supported by S.D. Erbprinz Alois von und zu Liechtenstein.
The main Open has 84 players and six Grandmasters in the field. The prize fund is CHF 11.000, with CHF 2.000 reserved for the champion. Senior Open has 44 participants. Top prize in this group is CHF 800.

Там же, но уже 20 июня пройдут Турнир A с обсчётом рейтинга ЭЛО ФИДЕ и турниры B детского кубка России по возрастам до 8, 10,12,14 лет. Начало в 16:00. Официальные церемонии открытия соревнований Фестиваля и объявления итогов жеребьёвки пройдут 20 июня в 14:30. Планируется онлайн трансляция ведущих партий турниров А, В и D.

Aeroflot 2011 (125 000 eur), Cappelle La Grande 2011 (30 000 eur), Dubai Chess Open (45,000 USD), and Nakhchivan Open (66,500 USD) are just some of the events that have been going on for the first months of this year.
The latest Super Open that was announced is Albena Chess Open. It will take place 25th June - July 3rd in the Albena sea resort (near Varna, Bulgaria), and is boasting a prize fund of over 40,000 EUR.
The first prize in Albena is the impressive 8000 eur, but what is even better for the chess enthusiasts, there are 30 prizes ranging from 1000 to 100 eur for amateur chess players, and 16 prizes ranging from 500 to 100 eur for youngsters. The 1st International Tournament Isthmia 2011 is set to take place from 18th to 25th August at the Alkyon Hotel in Vrachati, Korinthia, Greece. The tournament will be 9-rounds Swiss event, divided in two rating groups.
Group A is for the players with FIDE rating over 2000 and Group B for the players with FIDE rating under 1900 or unrated. Players rated 1850 - 2000 may select in which group they will participate.

The 2012 Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival is set to take place from 23rd January to 2nd February 2012 at the Caleta Hotel in Gibraltar. The main event of the Festival will be the 10-round Masters tournament from 24th January. Already 25 strong Grandmasters are signed to participate (list bellow).
In addition, there will be the 1st Amateurs and Challengers events from 23rd to 27th January, the 2nd Amateurs and Challengers from 28th January to 1st February, two evening blitz events and Master classes with elite players.

The 2012 Doeberl Cup, 50th in a row, will be held from 4th to 9th April at the Hellenic Club of Canberra in Australia. The Olympus Room provides the main playing hall for the event. An $17,850 prize money pool is on offer.
The event will consist of five tournaments:
- Premier Tournament to be played over 9 rounds of Swiss system on 4-9th April. Reserved for the titled and players rated above FIDE 1900 or ACF 1800. Maximum 90 participants, prize fund is $12,350 (first place – $4,000).
- Major Minor Tournaments to be played over 7 rounds of Swiss system on 5-9th April. Maximum 80 participants in each.
Major entrants require an ACF rating between 1400 and 2000. Players with a FIDE rating below 2000 and an ACF rating below 1400 (or ACF unrated) are also eligible to play in the Major. Minor entrants require an ACF rating below 1600. Prize funds are $3,250 $2,250, respectively.

The Russian city of Samara is paying a tribute to the legendary Grandmaster Lev Polugaevsky. The 2nd Memorial tournament is scheduled to take place from 5th to 13th July as a 9-round Swiss competition.
The total prize fund is 11.000 EUR and the tournament is a qualifier for the 2012 Russian Cup. The winner will earn 2400 EUR.
Oslo Chess International 2012 will be organized at Thon Hotel Ullevaal Stadion during the Norwegian autumn holiday 30 September – 7 October, again as a cooperation between IA IO Hans Olav Lahlum and the Akademisk chess club from the Oslo University.
Tournament system will be the same as in 2011, meaning a GM-group for players above 2150 and an ELO-group for players below 2150.
The tournament again will be played with the classical high quality time limits 2 hours in 40 moves and then 1 hour for the rest of the game.

International Chess Festival Baku Open 2012
The International Chess Festival Baku Open 2012, dedicated to the Independence Day of Republic of Azerbaijan, will take place from 21st September to 1st October at the AF Hotel near Caspian Sea.
The Festival is organized by the Azerbaijan Youth Sport Ministry and Azerbaijan Chess Federation. The total prize fund is 50.000 USD. First place is 10.000 USD worth.
The Tournament A is open for the players rated higher than 2250 FIDE and for women rated higher than 2100.
The Tournament B is open for the players rated under 2250. Both groups will be played over 9 rounds of Swiss pairings.
The 2012 Groningen Chess Festival will be held from 21st December up to and including 30th December, 2012, at the Sportcentrum Rijksuniversiteit Hanzehogeschool, Blauwborgje 16, 9747 AC Groningen.

Pavlodar Open 2012, devoted to the Republic of Kazakhstan Independence Day, will take place from 29th November to 9th December at the Kazakhstan Chess Palace in Pavlodar.
The tournament is organized by the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, Management of tourism, physical training and sports of the Pavlodar area, and Pavlodar Chess Federation.
The playing format is 10-round Swiss and the tournament will be valid for FIDE rating and norms.
